Sports Eyewear

Over 80% of the information we receive comes from our visual system. This increases during sports because the eyes direct the dynamic movement of the body, or as we say, ‘the eyes lead where the body follows’.

WHY 'SPORTVISION'?

Scientific research has clearly established a link between vision and sporting performance, both for sports enthusiasts and elite athletes alike.

This is a holistic understanding of the visual process which goes far beyond the scope of a normal eye test.

In competitive sport the difference between success and failure is measured in hundredths of a second or fractions of an inch. Uncorrected visual problems can have a dramatic effect on sporting ability and despite this, many sports enthusiasts do not associate visual skills with sporting performance.

A High Street optician does a great job at improving vision (visual acuity), but is not necessarily equipped to look, in detail, at how anciently the eyes are working for the athlete’s particular sporting demand. That’s where we come in.

HILLIERS' 'SPORTVISION' PROGRAMME

Our program allows athletes to understand how well their eyes perform and improves the visual abilities that are most necessary for excellence in their sport. Some of these include *:

Eye-hand coordination
Dynamic visual acuity
Tracking
Focusing
Visual reaction time
Peripheral vision.

*We provide an individually tailored program for each sport and athlete. A program for a tennis player will emphasize eye-hand coordination and dynamic visual acuity whereas for a golfer we’d concentrate on visual alignment and depth perception to see the breaks in the greens.

We can improve accuracy in these different practices :

SNOOKER : Potting skills
ARCHERY, RIFLE, PISTOL, SHOTGUN, DARTS : Aim in target shooting
GOALKEEPING : Catching
CRICKET : Batting consistency
ROWING : Timing
GOLF : Putting and driving
RUGBY AND FOOTBALL : Position awareness
CYCLING, MOTOR RACING : Obstacle avoidance
BOWLS : Length and line
WHAT IS A 'SPORTVISION' ASSESSMENT ?

In addition to a full eye examination, we assess:

Hand/eye co-ordination
How the eyes work together
Which eye is dominant
How your eyes work in poor light
How coloured lenses enhance your vision
Anticipation skills Eye speed.
