SchoolVision

Hilliers Vision can help your child to beat the effects of visual stress and Dyslexia

Over 80% of the information we receive comes from our visual system. Around 20% of children in UK Schools have been identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN).

WHY A 'SCHOOLVISION' TEST ?

Childrens eyes can change quickly — sometimes even within 3 months. For this reason, regular eye tests are an important aspect of your child’s overall health and well-being.

At Hilliers, we want each and every child to succeed. We’re helping to break down the barriers to success by introducing holistic eye care. Any high street optician can provide your child with a pair of glasses or two. However, there’s more to children eye care than meets the eye.

HILLIERS’ 'SCHOOLVISION' PROGRAMME

During our SchoolVision assessment we study the way in which your child’s eyes work together as they read, with particular emphasis on the relationship between their vision and learning difficulties.

Eyes can sometimes fail to cope with the pressures of everyday tasks such as reading, writing and operating electronic devices. We don’t want this to limit your childs ability and can identify any potential barriers.

  • Fatigue and headaches
  • Frustration
  • Lack of attention
  • Poor behavior
  • Poor reading and writing skills
  • Poor hand-eye or body-eye coordination resulting in clumsiness.

WHAT IS A 'SCHOOLVISION' ASSESSMENT ?

In addition to a full eye test, this assesses:

  • Difficulties at school – (history & symptoms)
  • Muscle balance – (eyes working together properly)
  • A child’s dominant eye – (for better reading skills)
  • The ability for eyes to follow a moving object – (tracking)
  • That both eyes can focus clearly for reading – (specs required?)
  • Reading speed – (scope for improvement)
  • Colour preference and light sensitivity – (tint/visual comfort)
BENEFITS

Following the Schoolvision assessment, where spectacles or contact lenses are prescribed, and sometimes eye exercises the benefits for your child are:

  • Better school performance
  • Increased reading speed
  • Better at arithmetic
  • Increased self-esteem / confidence
  • Clearer writing
  • Increased concentration
  • Decreased tiredness & anxiety
  • Reduction of headaches/migraines
  • Calming effect (in children with hyperactivity)
NOT ONLY FOR CHILDREN

Whilst the greatest benefits of our SchoolVision Assessment are achieved by treating symptoms at a young age, adults can also undertake a school vision assessment, the principles being exactly the same. (Click on learning difficulties section)

many people are still being diagnosed with learning difficulties at University or when they start work. For these individuals, we have been able to improve their visual ability to allow them greater comfort in reading or occupational tasks.
